In the 20th century composers started creating a musical genre which was heavily influenced by atonal music and computers. Composers, mostly American, like Milton Babbitt, John Cage, Elliott Carter, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, had been redefining notation, rhythm and harmony in search of something fundamentally new. In Europe, composers like Karlheinz Stockhausen and Luigi Nono, inspired by architect Le Corbusier, experimented with twelve-tone music and serialism. A lot of this music was used in iconic movies, like Star Trek and Eyes Wide Shut.
For musicians looking for music that defies traditional counterpoint and harmony guidelines, contemporary music is the way to go. Gustaf has a wide range of contemporary classical music from the 20th century.
